  • This Standard defines decimal inch sheet sizes and formats forengineering drawings. Metric sheet sizes and format are defined inASME Y14.1M. For engineering drawing preparation and practices, seeASME Y14.100.

    Purpose

Standardization of drawing sheet sizes and the uniform locationof format features on drawing forms provides definite advantages inreadability, handling, filing, and reproduction. In using drawingsheets made by other organizations, an advantage is gained whenlike items of information are in the same location on all drawingsheets, and when uniformity of form and language is applied inmaking information entries. Revision information and dates are ofparticular importance to users of drawings and should be locatedand expressed uniformly on all engineering drawings.

The widespread use and exchange of reduced-size copies ofdrawing sheets both within and between organizations emphasizes theimportance of standardization of drawing sheet size and format.
